In our classroom, read aloud books are a part of our daily schedule and are used to promote reading, foster a sense of classroom community, celebrate the written word, expand vocabulary, teach empathy, spark collaborate conversations, and model good reading strategies. The inclusive books I have selected will represent the diversity in our classroom and help students to see themselves in our curriculum! Funding our project will not only provide quality text for reading and writing instruction, but will foster my students' joy of learning for years to come! In Maria Walther's book, "The Ramped-Up Read Aloud: What to Notice as You Turn the Page," she provides a strong and research-based argument for the use of read-aloud books for instructional purposes. Each of the titles I have selected have been highlighted in her resource with the learning targets, recommended instructional strategies, key vocabulary, and possible extension activities.
