My students inspired me to look into flexible seating as a possibility for my classroom. Last year I noticed that a lot of my students would ask me frequently to change up their seating. Some would ask to stand in the back or at their desks. Others would ask to sit on the floor near the board or in the VIP Section (small carpet with a bean bag chair). The VIP Section was also great for my ESE kids because it provided them a place to take a break if they needed it. This got me thinking about possibly adopting flexible seating in my classroom that I'd been hearing about in all the teacher blogs I follow. I checked in with my administrator and got the approval to start flexible seating next year. I'm so excited to provide my students with the ability to choose a seating option that motivates them to learn and fosters collaboration and engagement. I know this will make a huge impact on those students who need a break from the "traditional" classroom set up. Those students who need to sit on the floor or stand or move around a little bit will have the freedom to choose that option that will help them to be the best learner they can be that day!
