The goal for my classroom is for it to be welcoming, inviting and most importantly full of learning. I aim to accomplish these things by incorporating flexible seating into my room, interactive notebooks as well as math workshops. Flexible seating gives the students the ability to choose where they sit and how they sit so they can be successful in class. I already have a couch and auditorium seating. I hoping to be able to add stools, wobbly discs and eventually other seating. I saw a difference in my kids willingness to complete tasks last year when given the opportunity to have the choice of where to sit. Interactive notebooks pull in lots of information but it does so in a manner that's not just paper and pencil. The information is rich and engaging but at the same time they take the traditional classroom notes and create an interactive aspect. The kids will constantly be doing something with their notebooks. Lots of the materials will be invested into these notebooks that will be a great resource for the kids not only this year but for years to come. Math workshop will be a time where I can start the kids in small groups spiraling back to things they already know and they can work independently where I can work at my horseshoe table with small groups working on targeted intervention tasks to make the children more successful. With your help the possibilities will be endless for my kids.
