Teaching is a whole mind and body experience. This requires students to move and become comfortable in nontraditional seating. The biggest common space my students use for learning is on the carpet. On the carpet, I hold multiple daily whole group lessons. Additionally, students like to choose the carpet as a place to complete independent reading, writing, and math. Students play math games, hold cooperative learning groups, and working in partners all on the rug. My students need a rug that is large enough to accommodate all learners at one time for group lessons and provide enough space for individual learners to spread out during independent work.
