A 1st grader could read 1 million words this year by reading 180 books. Books help with children’s vocabulary and emotional development. This year we have 3 hours per day to spend reading and writing in the classroom. There will be students of various reading levels in my class that need multiple texts to help them succeed. We use guided reading in the classroom in order to monitor their progress and continue to give them harder texts as they progress in their reading skills. We also send home the books for students to read at home.
