I spend 80% of my day, teaching in small groups. Groups can range from 2-6 students. The primary reason for teaching in small groups is to spend more time engaging with individual students to meet their needs. I have found that the simplest things can get in the way of students focusing during group, and this is when I need their focus the most! We will use the wobble stools mainly at our small group table. The metal stools I have now often tip over, causing a loud distraction. When I use standard student chairs, they have to drag them from their desks. These make our area crowded, and students often lean back in their chairs, which is a safety issue. The wobble stools will solve many of these problems. They take up less space, are easily portable, and cannot tip over. When students are not with me in group, they are often sitting with a partner or working alone on the carpet. The cushions will help students to remember to sit correctly while they are working. As they work with partners, they should be "elbow to elbow, knee to knee." They can also be moved easily to where they are needed. These alternative seating options will limit distractions for my students, while also giving them a chance to wiggle!
