Each spring my students study various types of poetry. In the last few years I have ended this unit with a Blackout Poetry Project. This has been one of my students’ favorite activities of the year, especially among those who struggle to write their own poetry without the inspiration of other writing. The last two years have been a struggle to get this project done because only about half of my students had the supplies needed to complete the project. Of course I made sure that everyone have the markers needed to complete the project, but it becomes very expensive. I want to make sure everyone has the tools needed to create a project they are proud of.
