Students in my classes will use these resources every day to provide them with a wide variety of books and resources to choose from to read. During the independent learning portion of class, the first 20 minutes, freshmen will silently read a book of their choice. As the teacher, I will be reading, too. I will teach the students about various writer's craft using my book, and the students will be guided in strengthening their literary and nonfiction analysis and writing based on the mini lessons I will provide. Students will learn how to empathize with students within and outside of the classroom. The storage containers will allow me to organize the books in a way that is appealing and clear to students, matching student interests more easily. Students will also be able to increase their reading stamina through engaging novels that can't provide for them otherwise. This is the experience I want to provide for my students--nurturing their love for reading by opening their minds to multicultural literature with Blended Learning. Blended learning provides personalized practice that may not be possible within a traditional classroom setting without technological support and re-envisions the role of the teacher to be more that of a mentor, coach, and guide instead of solely lecture-based. Blended learning creates a way to focus on individual student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning needs, matching students with the right, personalized content, at the right time. From all of the multi-genre and multicultural texts chosen for my students, I will be able to provide my students with personal field trips to many places in the world through books. Using the Blended Model, students will read more, transfer their learning to other parts of their life, and increase their cultural capital because these resources will foster student autonomy.
