Being able to provide my students the ability to have flexible seating enables them to learn in an environment without restrictions, and further removes some of the physical challenges many of them face. I have discovered that students with flexible seating are more attentive, maintain better focus and have no complaints about being uncomfortable. There have been occasions where students have been able to transition to a variety of flexible seats in my classroom while reading or working on math equations, without being disruptive - and while staying fully engaged on task. In comparison, if these same students had only traditional seating, then they were only able to stay focused for about 20 minutes at a time. Therefore, my purpose is to build a learning environment that is physically adaptive to the needs of my students - removing any barriers that limit their learning potential.
