My classroom goal for this year is to provide a welcoming environment which is structured and individualized to each student’s needs. I believe offering flexible seating choices helps to create such a learning environment. Over the past two years I have started to integrate more flexible seating in my classroom and have noticed the positive impact it has had over the students’ learning. This year I am moving from 2nd grade up to 5th grade. As a part of this transition I would like to give my upper elementary students more choice and voice over their work space. Speaking from personal experience, I know traditional desks do not work for all learners. So much of a student's life is structured, but working at a hard stable surface does not always produce the best results. Student's needs vary. Some need the ability to move more while others need to stand, bounce, curl up, or rock! With your help I would like to provide my students the resources to make the best learning space choices. I would like to add ball seats, wobble stools, and reading cushions for seating options in the classroom.
