Students learn in a variety of ways. Flexible seating allows students to learn where they are most comfortable. They are given the best chance to succeed. Think about where you do your best work. I bet it's not at a desk. Students need options when deciding what works best for them. Some students like to move when they learn so a yoga ball would be a good choice for that student. Other students are comfortable on the floor so a lap desk would be beneficial for this student. Students with sensory issues are able to stimulate their sense of touch. Variety is the key. I want to give my students options. Flexible seating also builds community. Students are not territorial over a desk. Flexible seating encourages sharing of space and supplies. Students also must learn to share the seating itself.
