This bookshelf will improve my students’ chances to fall in love with reading by providing a way to display themed books for them to choose from. First grade students are more likely to read a book if they can see the cover and become excited about its content, especially when they are able to make their own choices. Each week, I will have new books on display that match our unit of study or the time of year for the students to enjoy and look forward to reading. First grade is the time for students to learn to read, imagine how much more they will read if reading is made fun and accessible to them.
