This year my school is transitioning to a "Soft Start" schedule. My students will trickle in as they arrive during the first 15 minutes of every school day. These materials will be used to create STEM-based Morning Bins. These STEM bins will allow my students the freedom of choosing an engaging, hands-on activity that appeals to them each morning as they arrive in the classroom. They will be able to start their day at their own pace, with the activity of their choice. Having the freedom of choice can set the tone for the students day. The Bins will create a "win-win" situation in the classroom - the students will be engaged and enjoying their activities, and their teacher will love the "unofficial" educational start to the day!
