These books will allow me to continue to build upon our classroom library. Our classroom library is a place where students are engaged, comfortable and excited to read, and is a place where they feel safe in their abilities, and know they can continue to grow as readers. I use this area as a place where students take ownership of their learning, and have choice in what books they want to engage with. My students are so excited to read when they see characters and people who reflect them in our classroom books! This project will allow my students to practice different reading strategies we use in AVID with books they can connect with. Many of these will also be used as whole class read alouds, where students get to see how I engage with books, and where I can model different strategies they can use to comprehend what they are reading. These books will continue to allow my students to advance in their reading skills and abilities, and will prepare them for college.
