As I prepare for 22+ new Firsties to walk through my door in just over a month, I look around and wonder if they will feel at home, loved, and an important part of what goes on in our classroom. My desire is that each one will find comfort and safety in our "Home Sweet Classroom." While much academic learning will take place, we will begin our year by learning to be a community, and build on it for the following 179 days. A rug may seem insignificant to many, but to 6 and 7 year olds, it becomes a place where they can sit "elbow to elbow, knee to knee" with their classmates, discuss questions posed to them, and find safety in answering, questioning, and collaborating. From Morning Meetings to read-alouds, Math mini-lessons to end of the day reflection, our classroom carpet is the hub of our community.

About my class
