The majority of my students have very limited life experience. They haven't experienced much beyond the confines of their own block. They have difficulty understanding and imagining places they have never been or even seen. Being able to virtually visit new places will help them build background knowledge, so they may expand their experiences and connect to new learning. It's so rewarding to see students' light bulbs switch on, and I know that having the ability to take students on Google Expeditions would definitely light up their horizons and awaken their minds to explore their world beyond the familiar. I plan to have each ELA class on a three week schedule, and students will experience a new station each visit. I plan to have the Google Expedition materials in one of the stations so every student will get to virtually visit different destinations. This will allow students to make connections with their curriculum where they would otherwise have no frame of reference. I know it's a big project, but my students are worth it!
