In our school, we are fortunate to have some classrooms that utilize flexible seating to accommodate students' need to move. This has been highly successful for those that are able to offer it! In my small group intervention setting, we work with some of the students for whom this is particularly important. While space is limited in my setting, I would love to be able to arrange my work area to provide seating that will help promote focus, build core strength, and accommodate appropriate opportunities to move. My hope is that I can replace the old, plastic classroom chairs with these stools that are quieter and can also contribute to students' gross motor strength. This naturally results in improvement in fine motor control. I believe that by allowing kids an acceptable way to move, without disrupting learning, will improve their productivity and focus.
