Flexible seating is a great way to offer choice to students throughout their day. By allowing students to choose, they are able to increase their responsibility in the classroom, which in turn creates a positive and respectful group atmosphere. Although my students have a couple of places to go and move to work, students are generally having to work at their desks all day. Flexible seating options are great for facilitating group work and cooperative learning. It is also wonderful for the student who could use a little more space to themselves. When students are comfortable, I find them to be more engaged and productive with their time. The bistro table will offer a small space for partners to work more intimately or individuals to retreat to. Having multiple sets of the ten drawer storage will allow students a specific place where they can keep and organize their supplies, rather than throwing it all into a desk. I love seeing my students cozy up with a good book, which is exactly how I see students enjoying the bean bag chair. Finally, the wobble stools will be a great way for students who struggle to sit still to be able to safely wiggle around without distracting their peers. I have watched my students gravitate towards any of my non-traditional seating options and would love to add these wonderful new pieces to their choices!
