In my district, athletics and academics are big themes. I want my students to have an opportunity to experience using their imaginations and creativity in Art. I have a minimal budget to purchase art supplies and want to give my students experiences with being creative. In my classroom we are big in being ish. Peter Reynolds wrote a book about how kids artwork can be ish, meaning it looks like something, but isn't perfect. I want my students to create without the expectation of perfection. I connect a lot of art projects with children's literature and music. Students will use these art supplies to find their artist voice. I want them to learn that their artwork is a reflection of them and that perfection is overrated. We will have projects that give the students the freedom to add their voice to each piece. Students will take what they learn and apply it their own unique masterpieces. Students will learn that we are a community of artists and will appreciate each others voices. Students will look for the positives in each others masterpieces.
