My current campus has limited access to technology to assist in students' growth and development. As part of my teaching philosophy, students should be given the opportunity to have direct and explicit instruction to develop cognitive thinking and practice. With access to a document camera and projector, I will be able to provide that direct instruction to help develop my students' cognitive thinking, practice and strategies in literacy development. In addition, students can take on the role of the teacher and teach a lesson or show their work to the classroom. The use of cognitive strategies activates learners' thinking and leads to improvement in their learning performance and achievement, and with specific technology, I am able to model that cognitive thinking to improve students' learning. My current class of students needs explicit instruction and modeling due to the fact that they are 2 to 3 years below grade level. I have used modeling to improve and develop students and with these resources, I believe my students will grow and shine as readers. The document camera and projector will be used in both reading and writing instruction.
