Upon completion of Breathe for Change's 200-hour training, I will become a certified Wellness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance CYT-200). This will allow me to share mindfulness and yoga practices and social-emotional learning strategies with students, colleagues, and families within our school community. The implementation of mindfulness and yoga within my school community will help reduce inappropriate and off-task behavior, which will result in an increase of academic success. These practices will provide students with positive ways to cope with their environment, trauma, depression, anxiety, and/or social-emotional needs. In addition to implementing these practices within my classroom, my plan is to launch a daily school-wide one minute mindfulness routine during morning announcements to increase focus and ensure that students and staff have a productive day. I also plan to offer a Calm Down Center during my prep to provide students with behaviors and/or social-emotional needs a space to practice mindfulness which will increase their ability to self-regulate.
