Collaborative Circles are happening in so many schools now. Why not in Designated English Learning Classrooms too? My students can greatly benefit from practicing core instruction using the Community Circles approach. Many come to my room shy and unsure. Sitting in a circle on a new rug will give them comfort and a sense of belonging. Everyone has a voice, everyone is equal, everyone gets a front row view, everyone is a part of a community in EL! My English Learners need hands-on materials to spark their interest, to make connections and to engage in effective learning. They also need sharp pencils to write down their academic vocabulary words and newly learned sentences.
