How would a lawyer be perceived if he or she brought a cardboard pizza box instead of a briefcase? How would patients feel about their doctor storing medical records in the equivalent of a cereal box, rather than professional, standing storage? How would we as customers feel to walk into a bookstore or library and see all of the stories on the floor? Just a 17 minute drive away from the University of Texas, my Fourth Grade students are the future medical students and law students of the university. I want to set them up for success now. It takes about 18 days to form a habit. Asking students to carry their most priceless possessions daily in a cardboard box isn't the habit that I want to create in the 174 days that my students are with me. I want to keep their priceless writing, the evidence of their thoughts, and their unique voices emerging into our world, in sustainable furniture up off of the floor. I will teach the students to value the furniture for the future classes that will use them. When students are entrusted with nice things, they learn how to care for things well. They feel better about themselves and their future. Our students also need a storage stand in their math and science classroom with my partner teacher. I am requesting both stands. Please help. Thank you!
