In today's world, technology is everything. As a math teacher, I value the learning of yesteryear and doing things by hand the old fashion way. However, I also value staying up-to-date with the times. That being said, if technology is not being used in a classroom, then I would be doing my students a disservice. I am looking to get 5 smartphones for use in my classroom. I am statistics teacher and something that we do very often is use technology. We look up data, conduct online surveys, and perform computer simulations on our phones throughout the year. This is always a challenge for the handful of students in my classroom who do not have a phone they can use for these class activities. It is my hope that I will be able to obtain these 5 devices for students to use as needed and further improve the flow and atmosphere in our classroom. They would not be used as phones, just for their wifi capabilities. An example of how they will be used is if we want to collect a quick set of data, I can send students a link to a survey and they can fill out the responses within just a few seconds and we can then summarize with graphs and simulations on the devices as well. Using technology to do this is so much more useful than by hand as it helps give students a better idea as to how statistics is used in the real world. I hope that you will consider helping me reach this goal. Thank you.
