These stools and milk crate seats (the milk crates will have soft cushions on them which I will purchase) will be options for my students to use in the classroom when doing individual or small group activities. (Students will still have a regular classroom chair at a table to sit at during whole group instruction and handwriting.) For the first week, I will have each student try a different seat and spot each day. Each day we will discuss how they were able to concentrate and do their assignments with the choice they made. I will stress the importance of learning and encourage them to be aware of what helps them concentrate and what distracts them. Choosing their seating will not only let them practice making good choices, but will help discourage misbehavior as well. If a child is not learning with their seating choice, or if they are distracting others, they will be instructed to move back to their regular classroom seat for the day and try something different the next day.
