Imagine looking at a picture of the Washington Monument or the Grand Canyon. You struggle to imagine yourself being there; it looks small and unimportant, the details are hard to make out. Now imagine using virtual reality glasses to put yourself at the base of the Washington Monument. You look around to see a crowd of people standing there with you, surrounded by American Flags, then you see the base of the tower and you slowly look up as you realize the magnitude of the monument. Next, you are standing on top of the Grand Canyon walls, looking down at the Colorado River. You feel as though you could reach out and touch the red soil. Your journey takes you down the side of the canyon, to the bottom where you can see the river flowing through the base of the canyon. These experiences are what my students are missing and the experiences they need in their education. My goal is to bring the learning to life for students through the use of virtual reality glasses. Taking them places I could never take them in a school year and places they may never get to visit. These adventures will help build their knowledge of the world around them, making the learning that takes place in the classroom more meaningful. Virtual reality glasses are a way to make learning engaging, capturing their attention and making them want to come back for more.
