The materials I have asked for are some of the basic things we will need to create our classroom's very first makerspace. I am starting my second year at this school and have not heard of anyone else having a makerspace so this might even be our school's very first makerspace! We are not a rich school. We are a one-school school district in the heart of San Jose, CA. The families we serve are mostly low income English learner families. They come to America for a better life for their children because the learning opportunities here are better. So, how can I make the education here different and more meaningful? "Logic will take you from A to B Imagination will take you everywhere" - Albert Einstein. A makerspace leads students to use their imagination. Students will have opportunities to create, build, design, think critically, collaborate and communicate. These are much needed skills for the 21st century. Everyone learns differently. Some are good at taking notes and memorizing and others learn by doing. Creating a makerspace will give my students the opportunity to experience learning in a different way.
