My students need to experience rhythm and music beyond what they hear at home. Having the opportunity to make their own rhythms and music helps students by teaching patterns and keeping time with the rhythm. From a therapeutic perspective, rhythms can help students “reset” their self-regulation, learn how to keep their focus, and work through obstacles rather than give up. I also have some students who need help keeping their wiggles to a minimum. The weighted lap pads, chair discs, and chair bands will help those students focus on their education by satisfying their sensory needs. Having accommodations to help students keep their focus is essential to educational success. To keep students relaxed and avoid overstimulation, I am requesting light covers as well. Fluorescent lighting can be too much for some students and they become agitated. Having softer lighting will help keep students in a calmer state for learning.
