Teachers can provide differentiation through methods and materials daily to try and meet a student's individual needs, but sometimes it's not enough! Last year I jumped on board the flex-seating train and tried to adapt my classroom to create a variety of individual working spaces - I did everything I could within my budget and was able to incorporate some pillow seating, a wobble stool, some crate seats, and a mix of stools amongst our normal classroom chairs.
My students did not have assigned seats and allowing them to have a choice really required them to make smart decisions, be considerate of others, and take responsibility for their learning! I loved watching their maturity and independence grow throughout the year! The items on this list will help give additional opportunities for my students to sit comfortably and move while they're learning if need be. The additional wobble stools are a little taller than the one I have and will really benefit those students who have a hard time sitting still. The wobble cushions will be used for a similar fashion, either on the floor or on top of traditional classroom chairs. The bench for three will be perfect for partner reading and help add a homey feeling in our classroom.
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day and ensure the learning experience is as exciting and meaningful as possible!
