For many years, I have been doing guided paintings with first graders. We placed paper towels over our tables and painted on 8x10 canvases laying on the table. This year, I have been gifted with a move to 5th grade and would love to reintroduce painting to my past students, but as more mature painters. By having easels, we will be able to complete guided paintings as real art students, on canvases and easels, and no longer leaning over the table. We will be able to paint landscapes, portraits and connect those with our science, social studies, and language arts.
