The greenhouse will help my students learn on multiple levels. I want to give my biology students an understanding of how gardening can help them bring food to their table and happiness in their hearts. I want to grow seasonally--mums in the fall, hanging basket flowers for the spring, and vegetable plants for the summer. I would also like to coordinate with my business education teachers to highlight on the potential for income in a greenhouse/agriculture business. The learning possibilities are endless: horticulture, agronomy, biochemistry, botany, plant pathology, environmental microbiology and business. My students are lacking in this area of science and I want to open their eyes to the other side of natural sciences--many students aren't aware of the possibilities that exist beyond health sciences. The rural location of our school means that many of my students love and participate in the outdoors. The aspect of agriculture is something my students would enjoy and need more experience with.
