My calming corner is a place for students to calm themselves and refocus. Students have been home so much in the past couple years due to Covid-19 that being in a busy, loud, hectic junior high building can sometimes be overwhelming. They are used to getting up and down when they want to and being more secluded. I strive for my classroom to meet a wide variety of students’ needs. When they need to use the desks, but can't be still, the fidgets and bouncy bands will accommodate their need for activity. We do a variety of projects and interactive learning to keep them engaged. The colored paper helps to direct the lessons and also allows them to express themselves. Some students need the seclusion, calm, quiet. My calm, "chill", corner accommodates those times. Students aren't the same as they were prior to cover-19. It's my job to meet them where they are and give them the tools they need to be successful.
