My classroom is the only kindergarten comprehensive development classroom in the county. I often teach between 12 to 20 students. My students have mild to profound disabilities, often requiring areas for them to decompress inside the classroom due to the inability to fully function in the classroom setting. The sensory corner we are trying to develop will serve as an area in my classroom for students to retreat to in order to escape some of the overwhelming elements of the school setting. All children deserve an area just to be themselves, and this sensory corner will hopefully bring them an area to release.
