Scholastic News and Science Spin are excellent resources for students of all ages. Scholastic News would benefit my third graders for three reasons. First, Scholastic News provides cross-curricular activities. As an ELA teacher, I will be able to reinforce reading skills while teaching science and social studies. Second, third grade is a foundational year in both science and social studies. Scholastic News would provide stories there students can relate to and build their knowledge of new concepts. Last, Scholastic News provides current events and current research. Often textbooks are out of date, and students don’t have access to current developments in science.
