My current classroom set-up consists of thirty traditional school desks, which is perfect for the teacher led lecture-based classroom. With my history classes, I develop lessons that promote students working together in authentic ways. While it is true that we can pull desks together to promote students working together, the products I have selected will help create an environment that positively supports collaboration. Collaboration is key to the 21st Century classroom. With collaboration, students learn key skills such as compromise, tolerance, listening, and clarifying ideas as well as their emotions. These skills will follow them throughout their future academic endeavors and their journey into the workforce. The tables are large enough that they can be used for a variety of activities including analyzing documents in large settings and creating visual aides. The stools for seating around the table are perfect to stack if students prefer to stand and work or to allow some learners to sit while others stand behind them for much larger groups working at the tables. I am excited to initiate collaboration stations in my classroom that will further engage my learners in many ways as well as look age appropriate for the secondary classroom.
