Teachers see hunger first-hand in their classrooms and are often the ones reaching into their own pockets to help ensure children get the food they need. Most teachers spend a minimum of $300 of their own money each year just on food for hungry students. My project is to create a classroom pantry that is stocked with snacks for my 2nd grade students. When students have their basic needs met, they can participate in active learning without hunger as a distraction. Hunger affects millions of children each year, and it can have a serious impact on a child’s ability to learn.Providing snacks improves concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory, and learning.
