As Penny Kittle says, "Books matter. Stories heal. The right book in the hands of a kid can change a life forever." To have a thriving classroom library where the students can see themselves within the pages will allow them to think beyond themselves and engage with other cultures and history. Multicultural books and more engaging texts will allow my students to grow as readers. Becoming stronger readers is imperative for their success in the classroom and beyond and having a broader perspective will allow them to be better prepared for their future. Literacy is key for opening that door.
