Flexible seating allows students to feel empowered by having a degree of choice and control over their environment resulting in high order thinking skills. It allows them to improve their physical health by bringing oxygen and blood flow to their brain. Furthermore, it will encourage students to remain calm, productive, and focused because they are comfortable. My goal with flexible seating is to create a less teacher controlled classroom and a more student driven classroom because it has shown a significance in student engagement. It will bring a sense of collaboration and community among the students. Flexible seating will create a classroom environment where students can share materials with ease and discuss topics in partners and/or small groups. With a variety of learners, including some diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, and autism, flexible seating will stimulate students' sense of touch, which will help those learners process information easier. I hope that with the use of flexible seating in my classroom, my students will advance in project-based learning, technology integration, group collaborations, and plenty of independent discussions. My students deserve this!
