For the 2019-2020 school year, it has been my goal to make my classroom and the students that will fill it the most positive, accessible, colorful classroom that it can possibly be. One way that I believe can make that possible is through adapted art. "Art making can be one of the most meaningful activities in which a student with (and without) disabilities can be independently engaged." - Susan Loesl, Adaptive Art and Art Therapy. Adapted art focuses on giving students the ability to express themselves in a way that they may not typically be able to through communication. This project will give my students a variety of art tools that will help them with self expression, visual/physical learning, and strengthening their fine motor skills. Plus, art is fun! Art can be implemented in any classroom lesson to help students whose learning styles are beyond verbal (words) or logical (reasoning). All of the art supplies selected for this project allow my students to practice art and learning independently by meeting physical needs and strengthening their fine motor skills.
