Students love to express themselves through visual arts. However, most students haven't had the opportunity to use their imagination and just create without limitations. Of course, there are techniques I will teach them to use, but their personality will shine through. A perfect example is when we practiced the technique used by Van Gogh to create Starry Night. I was amazed to see the different versions of Starry Night created by my students. These paintings were displayed in the hallways for everyone to enjoy. I strongly feel students should have experience using different art medium and techniques. For example, most students have never held an oil pastel! Each nine weeks we will use paint, oil pastel, watercolor, colored pencil, and marker/pen. I'm wanting to give my students the chance to have fun and produce projects they will be proud to display.
