In Pre K, a lot of learning takes place through play. This year, items that cannot be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized will not be used due to COVID19. With this classroom set of kinetic sand, I will still be able to engage my students in play based learning experiences that will address their fine motor skills and appeal to their need for sensory play. This classroom set of kinetic sand boxes will provide each of my students their very own set of sand so that sensory play and fine motor development can still happen in a safe and clean manner. Kinetic sand can be used during center time for simple play based experiences. In addition, we use sand for STEM activies, letter and number practice as we write our names, letters, numbers, etc. in the sand, and we also use sand for the very important foundation of developing fine motor skills. Considering the detrimental burdens COVID19 has placed on children and families, addressing students' social and emotional needs through sensory play will be of utmost importance this school year.
