Our school was built in 1953. We have a great deal of history and a community that loves our school. Our students are amazing, but unfortunately, county funding is extremely limited. Although our community members are extremely generous and giving of their time, they are less able to provide monetary support. Our school does not have the furniture necessary to create successful group work, nor the money to help supply it. The school PTO works diligently to assist, however, it is a long and slow process to try to update our school with little help from federal, state or local government. The current classroom furniture was donated when the local middle school made updates and we were able to obtain some of their old pieces. Because of these issues, no teachers have kidney tables, except for ones who had donations. A kidney table would greatly assist my math small groups and team science projects run more efficiently, allowing students to work together on topics at hand with minimal distractions. Currently, my students sit on the floor or move small single desks together for group collaboration. My groups have no room to spread out and are cramped in their work.Students struggle to succeed when frustrated due to the lack of workspace. We typically have to hold work in laps or try to use clipboards in order for students have the space they need. Overall, a kidney table and dry erase supplies would significantly improve the group dynamics and improve our education. I would love to focus on the problems students will solve and the content they will learn instead of how they will fit at the table. Please help us improve our classroom!
