This class set of books will allow my students to learn about the events of September 11 in an age-appropriate way. The novel intertwines the stories of four students who - despite their differences in race, gender, geography and religion - are all affected by the tragedy of 9/11. The inclusion of multicultural characters will serve as both a mirror and a window. It is a “mirror” that helps my students see characters like themselves in literature, which is essential in their reading experience. The book is also a “window” that exposes them to unfamiliar cultures, which will help widen their perspectives.
