On the first day of school I asked my students to fill out a Reading Survey. This survey asked about their feelings towards reading, and what genres they are/might be interested in. I took all of these responses into account when creating this list for my classroom library. In order for students to get excited about reading, books must be interesting, relevant, and important to them as individuals. This is why I included their input when making my final decisions for what to have accessible in my classroom. My students begin each day by reading independently for fifteen minutes. This time is most effective when students have access to books that are appropriate for their level and challenging enough to invoke thought. My classroom library is an essential part of the classroom environment I am trying to create, and with this list, students can get excited about the books they can dive into!
