Free voluntary reading has been shown to improve student achievement; especially in the area of world languages. With these books, my students will have a great classroom library from which to pick their favorite stories. Students will be reading daily for about 15-20 minutes. Chapter book reading is completely new to my students, so this will be a great learning experience for them. In addition to learning and practicing their Spanish, they will be building their confidence in reading their first books. This confidence-building​ is key to building classroom community and continuing to improve in Spanish. In addition to practice and confidence building, novel reading brings a great amount of cultural awareness that may be difficult to incorporate in other ways. The novels that have been selected include a variety of cultures from which to learn.
