Having five Kindle Fire e-readers in my classroom will allow my students to achieve independent- sustained reading goals. Students will be able to use our district technology services and create digital reading logs in the classroom. These e-readers will allow students to easily pick books through websites such as TumbleBooks, that will help students with both fluency and comprehension. Using these e-readers during small group will allow both creativity and flexibility with how I teach my guided reading groups. I will be able to access digital guided reading books which will allow students to engage in a more interactive way and assist my ESL students with their reading goals. They will be able to digitally highlight key terms, new vocabulary and easily search for answers within the text during guided reading. Students will also be able to utilize the schools digital online resources such as: EBSCO, PebbleGO Science and Britannica when we do our second grade animal research project. These Kindle Fire tablets will allow reading and writing to come to life for my students and increase student engagement.
