If we want to understand the present, we must look into the past! Next year I will be teaching 8th Grade US History and I believe that this powerful book would be such an amazing addition to our curriculum. This is not your typical classroom history book- in my class, I actually prefer not to use the assigned state textbook, and I teach at a tech school so most of what we read comes from online articles. However, because 'A Young People's History' is so awesome (and kids need to interact with real books!) I am hoping to buy a class set of 30. I found on Amazon that the books can be purchased BRAND NEW for about $15 each. I work at a growing public charter in Vallejo- next year is just our second year- so funding for items such as books is difficult to come by. If I can get 30 friends/family members to buy one book- I’d have a class set and you would have taken part in empowering a young scholar with some raw knowledge on the REAL history of the United States.
