With a classroom rug, my students will have a comfortable area to learn. My classroom does not have a Promethean Board, so we meet on the rug several times throughout the day. It is important for each student to have their space on the rug where they feel comfortable and safe. The carpet is a place for story time, for kids to turn and talk, and an alternative place to learn. The carpet is an ideal place to build a community. It's a comfortable place that encourages growth and learning. The carpet will be placed in the middle of the room close to the white board. For some kindergartners, this is their first time coming to school, so seeing a carpet in the middle of the room can be aesthetically pleasing to them. At home, we typically have carpet or rugs because they offer color and warmth--that's the same feeling I want the kids to feel when they are in our classroom.
