A new aspect of our new reading curriculum this year is something called "Book Club". The students will be grouped with other students of similar reading ability and be assigned a book to read, comprehend, and apply previous and new concepts to. The component of reading and discussing what you read is one of the most powerful ways students can apply their learning. Their brains make more connections when they discuss what they are reading about and how to apply skills with their peers. I would like for the setting to be comfortable. I believe if it feels more casual, then they are less likely to think of it as work.
