Each day, at the start of class, I require students to read a book of their choice for at least 15 minutes. Students are not required to complete any additional work—they just have to read. My goal is to offer new books that will entice students, showing them that reading can be cathartic, enjoyable, and fun! Additionally, for homework, students are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes. Again, there is no task attached to this reading assignment because I want students to develop a healthy appreciation for reading. Ultimately, I hope to help students build their reading stamina and language acquisition in order to help them improve when taking assessments.
